    I, formerly a co-worker of the Local Church, returned to Almighty God in December 2001. The following are fragments of my memory of how I resisted Almighty God’s work of the last days and how I accepted it.

    The first person who preached Almighty God’s gospel of the last days to me was one of my in-laws. I not only didn’t accept it but also called him blind. And in the next three years I gave him a cold shoulder every time I met him. I also took him as a negative example in my preaching to lecture the other believers, so as to prevent them from accepting the work of the last days of Almighty God. Later, several sisters came to our church to preach the gospel, but I drove them out immediately when I discovered that. My desperate resistance restrained many brothers and sisters, and they dared not accept the true way. What’s more, I followed the “emergency announcement” against Almighty God which was distributed from the above, and made blasphemies and slanders at will and said evil words to attack the believers of Almighty God. And I also said to the believers, “Firstly, the Church of Almighty God only recruits young people but not the old. Secondly, it’s a heresy, a cult, and they always tempt people with money and beauty. Thirdly, they cut off people’s nose, gouge out their eyes, or break their legs.” Moreover, I also invented a lie that two people had been killed at such-and-such a place. This made some believers fearful and trembling, and they dared not come into contact with the preachers of the gospel of the last days. And meanwhile, I dragged one believer who had just accepted Almighty God back to our church…

    Although I was so disobedient and resistant, God did not treat me according to my evil deeds but led and guided me to accept His salvation of the last days, so that I came out of the dense fog and returned to His family, having an opportunity to start a new life. I sincerely thank Almighty God for His grace and uplifting.

Jesus

    One day in December 2001, I suddenly felt a longing to visit my nephew (I seldom paid him visits). At his home, I met with a brother who preached Almighty God’s work of the last days (at first I didn’t know he believed in Almighty God). So, we began to fellowship about belief in God. I found his fellowship was all in conformity with the Bible, and I had never heard such truths in the Local Church during the past years. This made me sincerely convinced. However, when he said that the Lord had come back, I immediately realized that he was a preacher of Almighty God. At that moment, I struggled within myself: “Should I listen or not? I was scared of the believers in Almighty God before, and I said a lot of blasphemies and slanders when I sealed off the church. But today I find that his fellowship is all in conformity with the truth and the Bible, and I have never heard such fellowship before.” In order to get to the bottom of the whole thing, I asked the brother three questions. The first one was: “Does your church only accept young people but not the old?” Then he took out the book of God’s word and read me a piece of God’s word, in which God says: “Today everyone in this stream who truly loves God has the opportunity to be perfected by God. Whether young or old, as long as one has a heart that obeys God and a heart that fears God, he can be perfected by God. … Both young and older brothers and sisters should know the functions you yourselves should perform. The young should not be arrogant, and the older should not be passive or draw back. And you should complement each other, minister to each other, and hold no prejudice against each other, so that a bridge of friendship can be built between you young and older brothers and sisters, and you can understand each other better because of God’s love. Young brothers and sisters do not look down upon the older brothers and sisters, and the older brothers and sisters are not self-right. Isn’t this a harmonious coordination? If you all have this resolution, the will of God will surely be accomplished in your generation.” At these words, I realized what I had heard before were all rumors and hearsay and were not the facts at all. Am I not also an old man? Is the brother not preaching to me now? How foolish and stupid I am!

    Then, I asked the second question. “I heard that the believers in Almighty God tempt people with money and beauty. How do you explain this?” Then the brother read me the Article 3 of the Administrative Decrees: “… All the offerings offered by man (including the money and the material things for enjoyment) are offered to God but not to man. So man should not enjoy these things. If man enjoys these things, he is stealing offerings. All such ones are a Judas, because Judas not only sold the Lord but also stole the money in the purse.” The brother said, “I have believed in Almighty God for several years, but nobody has ever given me a cent, and neither have I ever given anyone a cent. Today, preaching the gospel to others is our duty. It is to repay God’s love and to bring more true believers before God so that they can all receive God’s salvation. If we know God’s great salvation and His anxious heart, how can we not preach this gospel to more brothers and sisters? As to the rumor of committing adultery, God has stipulated in Article 4 of the Administrative Decrees: ‘Man has corrupt disposition and even more has emotion. So, in the service in coordination, two people of different sexes are forbidden to coordinate alone. If discovered, they shall be expelled, no matter who they are.’” After hearing the Administrative Decrees God issues, I felt enlightened all of a sudden: God’s requirement of man is higher and stricter in the last days. This is the work done by the true God.

    However, I still felt somewhat insecure. So I asked the brother, “I heard that you gouge out people’s eyes, cut off their nose, or break their legs. What’s this all about?” “Brother, have you ever seen these with your own eyes?” he asked. “No.” I responded. Then he continued, “As the saying goes, seeing is believing. If things happened as you say, wouldn’t they have long caused a sensation? Just think about this: Around you, there are some who have accepted Almighty God, and also some who listened but didn’t accept. Is there anyone among them who has his eyes gouged out, nose cut off, or limbs broken? Isn’t it a very obvious lie? Today, we just preach God’s gospel of the last days to the brothers and sisters of all sects and denominations. It’s up to them to choose whether they accept it or not, because God never forces man. I have accepted Almighty God’s work of the last days for several years. I have personally tasted how hard it is for God to do the work on earth, and have also seen God’s great love and care for mankind. Encouraged by God’s love, we brothers and sisters actively cooperate with God by performing our duties, preaching this greatest good news to the brothers and sisters of all sects and denominations whatever it takes. However, some of them shut the door on us; some beat us up with sticks; some pour water on us; some sic the dog on us; and some report us to the police. Aren’t all these facts obvious to all?” Hearing that, I felt so ashamed and didn’t know where to conceal myself.

    Through eating and drinking God’s word and the brother’s fellowship, as well as the contrast between the facts and the truths, I realized that I had been deceived by my upper leaders and at the same time I had deceived others. At that moment, I really hated myself for being so blind and foolish and lacking in discernment that I echoed what others said and blindly resisted and condemned Almighty God. “I have really disappointed God. I never expected that the Savior Jesus whom I have been yearning for day and night had already come to the world, and that I had even resisted and rejected him. How inhuman I am!” As I thought about it, I felt growing distress and could no longer refrain from tears. “O God! I am really indebted to You. I am corrupted so deeply by Satan that I do not have any likeness of a man, really benumbed and obtuse. I hate myself for being so evil and so bad. According to my actions and deeds, I only deserve to be cursed and do not deserve to receive Your salvation, much less to live before You. Yet You have selected me and saved me. O God! Your love for me is so great that I cannot disappoint Your kind intention anymore. I’m willing to make a resolution to follow You to the end to testify and glorify You. I will cooperate with You to spread Your gospel and bring before You the true believers who are still blinded by deception, so as to make up for my indebtedness and repay Your love, thereby putting Satan to shame.”

    Dear spiritual brothers and sisters in the Lord, wake up quickly! I hope you will never be foolish and ignorant as I was. Almighty God is the truth, the way, and the life. Now God’s work is drawing to a close and is about to be accomplished successfully. Brothers and sisters, seek and make an investigation quickly! If you miss this good opportunity, you will regret all your life. Just as God says: “The return of Jesus is a great salvation for those who are capable of accepting the truth, but for those who are unable to accept the truth it is a sign of condemnation. You should choose your own path, and should not blaspheme against the Holy Spirit and reject the truth. You should not be an ignorant and arrogant person, but someone who obeys the guidance of the Holy Spirit and longs for and seeks the truth; only in this way will you benefit. I advise you to tread the path of belief in God with care. Do not jump to conclusions; what’s more, do not be casual and carefree in your belief in God. You should know that, at the very least, those who believe in God should be humble and reverential.” “… do not treat belief in God as a game. Think for the sake of your destination, for the sake of your prospects, for the sake of your life….” “You must know that all of the Israelites spurned and denied Jesus, yet the fact of Jesus’ redemption of mankind still spread to the ends of the universe. Is this not the fact that God has long ago fulfilled?”

    Brothers and sisters, from God’s words we have seen God’s kind intention for man and His warnings and exhortations for man. God is earnestly expecting everyone who sincerely believes in Him to return to His family as soon as possible, for He doesn’t bear to see anyone that belongs to Him fall into the disasters rare through the ages. May we be a man with conscience, and not let God worry and grieve over us any more.

Almighty God’s Word Made Me Become Subject Before God

    I was formerly a mid-level leader of the Stream of Recovery. Since I was called in the Lord in 1985, I had been in the stream of the Lord’s recovery. I always believed that the Bible was a book of life, in which every word was breathed by God, and that God’s good and kind intention for mankind over six thousand years had been fully revealed to us in it. So, I regarded the Bible as my lifeblood and very much adored Brother Lee who had brought us the “higher vision.” I always believed that God had already unlocked all the mysteries in the sixty-six books of the Bible through Brother Lee and that all the mysteries and the essence of the Bible had already been revealed to us. When the antichrists would make the covenant, when the temple would be rebuilt, when the Lord would return, and where and when the Lord would take us up, all these had been told to us. So we only needed to attend meetings, be obedient, and wait to be taken up to reign and rule when the revelations were fulfilled. Therefore, I paid much attention to reading Brother Lee’s messages. I also shepherded the brothers and sisters in the area where I ministered according to the methods of Brother Lee. Honestly speaking, at that time, I only wished that I could be full of the words from the messages of Brother Lee either when I preached or when I fellowshipped, for Brother Lee once said that he was the Lord’s recorder and that we should all become his recorders. It could be said that the brothers and sisters under me and I worshipped Brother Lee’s messages as we worshipped God. We read his messages at usual times, shared his messages at the meetings, and followed the prescribed routine in his messages waiting for God’s return. I condemned anything different from the “vision revealed” by Brother Lee as a “heresy” and would not accept it at all.

    At the end of the fall of 1994, a brother came to preach Almighty God’s work of the last days to me, saying that the seven seals had been broken. I immediately contradicted him with the scriptures and drove him away without giving him any chance to explain. In 1996, two former co-workers of mine came to visit me and fellowshipped with me about Almighty God’s work of the last days. As I found that what they fellowshipped did not tally with Brother Lee’s exposition of the Bible, I judged arbitrarily that they had been “deceived” and had joined the “heresy.” So I forcibly drove them away. After that, I felt a great repugnance and resistance to the people who came to preach the gospel of the last days. I went around sealing off the churches, not allowing the brothers and sisters under me to have contact with those who preached the gospel of the last days. And I said, “Those people are sheer antichrists, the deceitful false prophets, a kind of people to be cursed by God, and they are like the grasshoppers in late autumn whose days are numbered…” During that period of time, there were continually people coming to preach the gospel of the last days to me, but I refused them all.

    That lasted until March 5, 2002. On that morning, a brother of our denomination, who had accepted Almighty God, called me and invited me to his home. I was unwilling to go there. But as he invited me repeatedly, I felt embarrassed to turn him down. I thought to myself, “I’m just going to meet a friend. I won’t be afraid if he talks about the work of the last days. I have Bible knowledge, and I am clear about the vision. Why not go?” When I arrived there, I saw another brother with him. I gave that brother a glance and thought scornfully, “Is this what you call the master-hand? What can such a person preach?” The brother said to me smilingly, “Brother, let’s have a fellowship. We can fellowship about what we know.” I thought to myself, “Don’t you just want to talk about the three-stage work? What else can you say? You will only repeat those few words you have been specially trained to preach. The same old story, I’ve heard too much of it! Today, I will stump you with hard questions and put you on the spot!” So, I said, “Today when we fellowship, we shall interpret whatever verse in the Bible according to its proper meaning. If we depart from the Bible, then there is no need to fellowship. We shall fellowship in the way that I ask questions and you answer them.” “OK! Let’s do what you say,” replied the brother readily.

    So, I said loudly, “Can you tell me what ‘lightning’ means? You have to find this word from the Bible. I’ll believe in your God if your answer convinces me.” The brother smiled. He opened the Bible, turned to Psalms 97:4, and read, “His lightning enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled.” At this, my heart skipped a beat. “Oh, my! He answers so quickly and correctly. This is far beyond my expectation.” Seeing that my countenance suddenly changed, he said with a smile, “Brother, this one scripture does not prove anything. Let’s keep seeking. The Lord is really mystery. As long as we seek with a humble heart, He will unlock His mysteries to us.” Then, he opened the Bible again and found out many other verses: Psalms 18:13-14, Zechariah 9:14, Matthew 24:27, Luke 17:24, Revelation 4:5, and so on. Only then did I find that I, who had regarded myself as being “endowed with great talents” and “rich in knowledge,” was actually so superficial and ignorant. So I dropped myself and listened to the brother’s fellowship with a seeking heart. Enlightened and guided by the Holy Spirit, I felt as if awakening from a dream. “Actually, the one I have been resisting for so many years is not a human but the Savior Jesus whom I have been earnestly expecting for a long time. Almighty God is precisely the returned Jesus!” I really hated myself for being so blind and foolish that I believed in God yet did not know God. I echoed what others said, neither investigating nor seeking, and I showed myself off with the very little Bible knowledge that I had. I thought that I had known everything after reading and wearing out several Bibles, and I did not seek God’s intention. I was really so arrogant and ignorant.

    Then, I fellowshipped with the brother about Brother Lee’s exposition of the Bible. The brother said, “Matthew 10:24 says, ‘The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.’ This shows that although Brother Lee had done much work, he was only a man, and could not replace God Himself, and we shouldn’t regard his messages as God’s words. Revelation 5:3-5 says, ‘And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. … the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.’ This shows that no one is worthy to open the scroll, and only God Himself is able to open the little scroll.” Having said that, he took out a book and said, “This is Almighty God’s personal utterance—the little scroll.” Then, he read me a passage of God’s word in “The Mystery of the Incarnation (1),” which says: “Even a man who is used by the Holy Spirit cannot represent God Himself. And not only can this man not represent God, but his work cannot directly represent God. That is to say, the experience of man cannot be placed directly within the management of God, and it cannot represent the management of God. All the work that God Himself does is the work He intends to do in His own management plan and relates to the great management. The work done by man (man used by the Holy Spirit) supplies his individual experience. He finds a new path of experience from that walked by those before him and leads his brothers and sisters under guidance of the Holy Spirit. What these men supply is their individual experience or spiritual writings of spiritual men. Though they are used by the Holy Spirit, the work of such men is unrelated to the great management work in the six-thousand-year plan. They are merely raised up by the Holy Spirit in different periods to lead people in the stream of the Holy Spirit until they have fulfilled their function or their lives come to an end. The work they do is only to prepare an appropriate way for God Himself or to continue one item in the management of God Himself on earth. Such men are unable to do the greater work in His management, and they cannot open up new ways out, much less conclude all the work of God from the former age. Therefore, the work they do represents only a created being performing his function and cannot represent God Himself performing His ministry. This is because the work they do is unlike that done by God Himself. The work of ushering in a new age cannot be done by man in God’s place. It cannot be done by any other than God Himself. All the work done by man is performing his duty as one of creation and is done when moved or enlightened by the Holy Spirit. The guidance that such men provide is how to practice in man’s daily life and how man should act to the will of God. The work of man neither involves the management of God nor represents the work of the Spirit. As an example, the work of Witness Lee and Watchman Nee was to lead the way. Be the way new or old, the work was done on the basis of not exceeding the principles of the Bible. Whether the local churches were restored or built, their work was to establish churches. The work they did carried on the work that Jesus and His apostles had not finished or further developed in the Age of Grace.” After listening to this passage of God’s word, I understood that Brother Lee was only a man. Neither he himself nor the work he did could represent God. All he did was to lead other brothers and sisters according to the principles in the Bible. He could not go beyond the Bible and beyond the Age of Grace to do a new work. Although Brother Lee could explain the Bible and preach about some biblical knowledge and theological theories, he knew nothing about the Lord’s coming again and the details about how the Lord’s work in the new age would be done. So we could not measure God’s new work or draw any conclusion about God’s work according to Brother Lee’s exposition of the Bible.

    Then, the brother read me a passage of God’s word in “Concerning the Bible (1),” which says: “You all need to understand the Bible—it is very necessary that you do so. … The Bible is a history book. If during the Age of Grace you were to eat and drink the Old Testament, practicing the requirements of the Old Testament age, then Jesus would forsake you, condemn you. If you had tried to impose the Old Testament on Jesus’ work, you would have been called a Pharisee. And so today, if you eat and drink and practice the Old and New Testaments, then the God of today will condemn you; you cannot keep pace with the work of the Holy Spirit today. If you eat the Old and New Testaments, then you are one outside the stream of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ day, He led the Jews and all those who followed Him according to the work of the Holy Spirit in Him. He did not look to the Bible for evidence, but spoke as His work dictated. He did not concern Himself with what the Bible said, did not lead His followers down a path found in the Bible. From the very beginning, He preached the way of repentance, and the word ‘repentance’ was not mentioned at all in all the prophecies in the Old Testament. Not only did He not follow the Bible, He brought forth a new path and did a new work. He did not make reference to the Bible when He preached, and the miracles He worked—healing the sick, casting out demons—had never been performed by men during the Age of Law. No one in the Age of Law did the work He did, taught those lessons, had that authority. He simply did His new work, though many people condemned Him, even crucified Him, by using the Bible. His work went beyond the Old Testament; if that had not been the case, why would they have nailed Him to the cross? Was it not because His teachings, His power to cure the sick and cast out demons, had never been recorded in the Old Testament? The work of Jesus was to bring forth a new path; He did not deliberately set out to ‘wage war’ against the Bible or abolish the Old Testament, but simply performed His ministry, bringing the new work to those who thirsted for Him and sought Him out. He was not trying to explain the Old Testament or defend its work. Carrying on the Age of Law was not His goal, for He did not care in the least whether His work was grounded in the Bible, but simply did the job that He needed to do. So He did not attempt to explain the Old Testament prophecies, did not base His work on words spoken in the Old Testament Age of Law. He did not concern Himself with what the Old Testament said, whether it accorded with His own work, did not care how other people saw His work or condemned His work. He simply kept on doing the job He needed to do, though many people condemned Him, invoking the words of the Old Testament prophets. In people’s eyes His work was not based on a shred of evidence, and in many ways it ran counter to what was recorded in the Bible. Were they not grossly in the wrong? Must God’s work obey any rules? Does He need to follow the words of prophets? Which is greater, the Bible or God? Why must God’s work be in line with the Bible? Is it really not within His right to stand above the Bible? Can He not depart from it and do other work? Why did Jesus and His disciples not observe the Sabbath? If He was to observe the Sabbath, to practice the commandments of the Old Testament, then why, after His coming, did He not observe the Sabbath, but washed others’ feet and covered His head, broke bread and drank wine? Were these commandments mentioned in the Old Testament? If Jesus was to adhere to the Old Testament, why did He break these rules? You must know which came first, God, or the Bible? As He is the Lord of the Sabbath, can’t He also be the Lord of the Bible?” I listened quietly. Every word of God was so practical and so sincere that I felt bright in my heart and everything became clear in my eyes. I came to know that God’s work always progresses forward and is always new, and that God does not work according to the prophecies of the Bible, but does the newest and most realistic work according to His plan and man’s need. After hearing this passage of God’s word and thinking back to what the brother had fellowshipped with me about this stage of God’s work in the last days, I realized that God is so wonderful and so unfathomable. The new work done by God incarnate this time is to continue the work that God had not yet finished in the Age of Law and in the Age of Grace and is a newer and higher work. The Bible is only a record of the history of the first two stages of the work and the prophecies concerning the work of the last days, but it does not contain all God’s work and words, and not every word of the Bible is the word of God. But this time, God has returned to personally utter His voice and do the work of judging and purifying man with the word, and it is the last stage of the work in God’s six-thousand-year management plan. Such work of God has brought people into a brand new age and brought them the practices of the new age… Through this fellowship and eating and drinking God’s word, I, enlightened by God, understood many truths and realized that this was indeed the work done by God.

    The more I read God’s word, the more I became certain about this way, because apart from Almighty God, no one else could change the age or unlock mysteries, and even less could anyone purify man and bring man into the kingdom. At that time, I felt ashamed and disgraced, wishing I could sink through the ground. Ay! I really hated myself deeply and felt bitterly regretful. I had no discernment yet I slandered others. I refused to accept the true way and I also sealed off the churches and hindered the brothers and sisters from accepting it. I, such an arrogant, self-right, disobedient, and resistant person who was extremely corrupt and worse than beasts, had resisted God for eight years. I really deserved the retribution of being put into the lake of fire to suffer the eternal punishment. However, Almighty God did not treat me according to my evil deeds; instead, He tried every means to save me from the jaws of death so that I could have a part in His kingdom training. This was indeed God’s favor and uplifting! The day for God to reward good and punish evil is close at hand. Now most of the brothers and sisters who had been bound by me have returned to God’s family with me, but there are still some brothers and sisters who have been deceived continuing to resist. So, I’m willing to do my utmost to cooperate with God and bring more brothers and sisters before God, so as to make up for my past transgressions and indebtedness to God and repay Almighty God who loves man as His own flesh and blood. This is my biggest wish and is even more the bounden duty of a created being. Dear brothers and sisters, wake up quickly! This is the work of the true God! No one else can do it in His stead! If we refuse or don’t accept it, it will be too late for us to regret on the day when God’s work is concluded. Almighty God admonishes us, “You must not blindly condemn the words expressed by God because of the appearance of false Christs during the last days, and must not be someone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit because you fear deception. Would that not be a great pity?”

I Was Saved by Almighty God

—The Story of How I, Once an Opponent of Almighty God, Accepted Him

    I was formerly a worker of the Hua Xuehe sect. On December 2, 1998, I accepted Almighty God’s work of the last days. Only then did I come to know that God’s work is always progressing forward, understand the inside truth and the effects of God’s work in the Age of Law. And I also knew that in the Age of Grace, God was incarnated to be the Son of man, and He was crucified as the sin offering and redeemed the whole mankind. And furthermore, I knew that in the last days, on the foundation of the first two stages of His work, God has opened up a new age—the Age of the Word. And through His word, God exposes and judges men and will completely conquer men in the end, so that they will obey His word, submit to Him, and be of the same mind with Him, and become His manifestation on earth, the evidence of His defeating Satan, and the group of people who can bear testimony to His deeds. This group of people are the 144,000 overcomers mentioned in Revelation.

    In September 1997, a leader of our sect said to me, “You must be on your guard now, as there has appeared a Reaping sect called the ‘Eastern Lightning.’ It’s very powerful. Once one contacts its followers, he will be captured. We can’t let them reap us. They are robbers, not the ones who enter the sheepfold by the door. They hold a different belief from ours. So don’t receive any strangers. If someone comes to preach to you, tell him you have no religion. Don’t mention anything about belief in God, lest you be deceived.” He also said, “If you join in this sect, you can’t get out. If you try to, they will gouge out your eyes, cut off your nose, and break your legs. They are all fornicators. Whoever joins in their sect will never be received by our church again even if he comes out. God will root up the tares first. We will see who are the first to be rooted up. Those who are rooted up are the ones of no discernment.” Hearing his words, I declared right away, “I will not receive any outsiders. If they refuse to leave, I will beat them out, so that I won’t be deceived by them.” The leader added, “They are purely swindlers. They want to eat more than six dishes each meal, drink wine priced at over ten yuan a bottle, and smoke cigarettes costing over five yuan a packet.” These words were imprinted on my mind.

    A few days later, a brother came to preach Almighty God’s work of the last days to me. But I just pushed him out of the door, not allowing him to speak. He said, “Let’s talk about God’s will and the direction of the Holy Spirit’s work.” I answered him, “Talk about what? I have no religion. You are just looking for trouble, and doing nothing decent. Go away!” Then I slammed the door shut. After a while, my daughter came home, and she said to me, “Dad, that man is crying.” Hearing that, I remained unmoved, and said, “He came to ensnare our lives. He’s lucky that I didn’t beat him. If he comes again, I will teach him a ‘lesson’!” The brother stood outside our house for nearly half an hour before he left. Several days after that, another brother came, who was a little older than me. At the sight of me, he called, “Brother!” “Who’s your brother? Knock it off! Don’t try to tempt me!” I said. He continued, “The Bible says, ‘Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares’” “Entertain you? I would rather entertain beggars than you. Get out of here, or I will slap you!” Seeing him trying to enter the room, I went up and gave him a slap on the cheek. But he was neither annoyed nor angry, and still persuaded me, “Brother, it’s not proper to do this…” “Not proper? Very proper. I won’t be soft on you people!” Then I told my wife to push him out of the gate. When I peeped out from our yard and saw him leaving reluctantly in tears, I beamed with pride, thinking, “You asked for it. Serve you right! Even if you come one hundred more times, I will not believe in what you preach or join in your sect!” Three days later, two sisters came to my home. On entering the door, they called my wife “elder sister.” At first, I thought they were my wife’s relatives from her hometown, yet finally they turned out to be the preachers of the “Eastern Lightning.” They even said that Teacher Hua, whom we believed in, was a man, and not God. At this, I waved my hand and said impatiently, “Get out! No matter whether he is a man or God, I just believe in our Abba Father. However true the way you preach, I won’t believe in it!” As they were sisters, I thought it improper for me to push them out, and so I set our dog on them. But to my surprise, the dog, which usually attacked strangers frantically, did not even bark at them. Seeing this, I didn’t know what to do, so I said to my wife, “Now they don’t leave, we’ll go. Let them stand here, snubbed!” That was the third time I refused God’s salvation. However, God’s great love still didn’t leave me. After a week, one of my co-workers visited my home, and he said, “When our upper workers returned home from working, they each bought a suit, a handbag, and a hunk of beef and some mutton and tripe for more than 200 yuan.” Hearing this, I said to myself, “Isn’t that stealing and eating the offerings?” Then he asked me, “Did anyone come to your home to preach anything?” “Yes,” I replied with pride. “But I throw all of them out. I obeyed the order from above and received none of them!” “Some preachers came to my home too,” he said. “I’ve noticed that their behavior is much better than ours. They are patient and humble. Their preaching sounds reasonable and is higher than ours, and they can tell many mysteries. Revelation 5:3-5 says, ‘And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. … the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.’ This means that only God Himself can open the book and reveal mysteries. Our teacher Hua has not done any new work. So we should seek. We may as well go and listen to what they preach. If it is the true way, we will believe in it; if it is not, we will still keep the way Teacher Hua preached to us. What do you say?” With an attitude of trying my luck, I reluctantly agreed to his suggestion. However, I was nervous for fear of being deceived.

    On December 2, 1998, the most memorable day of my life, this co-worker came to call me in the early morning. He said, “With you and me, we twelve people are willing to listen to their message. Now most of them have arrived at my home. Let’s go!” I did not feel good about refusing him, so I went with him. When we reached his home, I noticed that all the gospel preachers were very polite and decent in their speech and manner, while the brothers of our sect were loose in their behavior and they all smoked. One gospel preacher began to fellowship, and he said, “It is now the last days. God’s work is to class men according to kind. In the end, evil shall return to evil and righteous shall return to righteous. Those who follow the footsteps of the Lamb and gain the truth as their life will be approved by God, and those who fail to do so will be abandoned and eliminated. Just as when God destroyed the world with the flood, all those who had entered the ark survived, while those who had refused to enter it were all drowned. In the Age of Law, those who kept the law were blessed by God, while those who failed to keep it were cursed by God. In the Age of Grace, God did the work of redemption through Jesus’ crucifixion. Whoever believed in the Lord Jesus was justified, and those who did not believe in Him were condemned already. In the Age of Kingdom, God expresses the word and judges and purifies man with His word. Those who accept the judgement of God’s word and are purified will be saved and remain, while those who do not accept will be abandoned and eliminated. This means that we must follow the Lamb wherever He goes. So, we shall not focus on signs and wonders! For the Lord Jesus told us in Matthew 24: ‘For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; so that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.’” When the brother fellowshipped that God is called by the name of Almighty God in the last days, I asked him, “Brother, why must God change His name? Why does God have so many names?” And he opened the book of God’s word and read to us, “I was once known as Jehovah. I was also called the Messiah, and people once called Me Jesus the Savior because they loved and respected Me. Today I am no longer the Jehovah or Jesus that people knew in times past. I am the God who has returned in the last days, and who shall bring the age to an end. I am the God Himself that rises up at the ends of the earth, replete with My entire disposition, and full of authority, honor and glory. People have never engaged with Me, have never known Me, and have always been ignorant of My disposition. From the creation of the world until today, not one person has seen Me. This is the God who appears to man during the last days but is hidden among man. He resides among man, true and real, like the burning sun and a flaming fire, filled with power and brimming with authority. There is not a single person or thing that shall not be judged by My words, and not a single person or thing that shall not be purified through the burning of fire. Eventually, all nations shall be blessed because of My words, and also smashed to pieces because of My words. In this way, all people during the last days shall see that I am the Savior returned, I am the Almighty God that conquers all of mankind, and I was once the sin offering for man, but in the last days I also become the flames of the sun that burn all things, as well as the Sun of righteousness that reveals all things. Such is My work of the last days. I took this name and am possessed of this disposition so that all people may see that I am a righteous God, and am the burning sun, and the flaming fire. It is so that all may worship Me, the only true God, and so that they may see My true face: I am not only the God of the Israelites, and am not just the Redeemer; I am the God of all creatures throughout heavens and earth and seas.

    When the Savior arrives during the last days, if He were still called Jesus, and were once again born in Judea, and did His work in Judea, then this would prove that I only created the people of Israel and only redeemed the people of Israel, and that I have nothing to do with the Gentiles. Would this not contradict My words that ‘I am the Lord who created the heavens and earth and all things’? I left Judea and do My work among the Gentiles because I am not merely the God of the people of Israel, but the God of all creatures. I appear among the Gentiles during the last days because I am not only Jehovah, the God of the people of Israel, but, moreover, because I am the Creator of all My chosen ones among the Gentiles.” When we heard these words, we all nodded in approval. Then I asked another question, “How do you explain the Holy Father, the Holy Son, and the Holy Spirit?” And the brother read us a passage of Almighty God’s word from “Does the Trinity Exist?”. God says: “This concept of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit is most absurd! This segments God and splits Him into three parts, each with a status and Spirit; how then can He still be one Spirit and one God? Tell Me, were the heavens and earth, and all things within it created by the Father, the Son, or the Holy Spirit? Some say that They created it all together. Then who redeemed mankind? Was it the Holy Spirit, the Son, or the Father? Some say it was the Son who redeemed mankind. Then what is the substance of the Son? Is He not the incarnation of the Spirit of God? The incarnation calls God in heaven by the name of Father from the perspective of a created man. Are you not aware that Jesus was born from the conception through the Holy Spirit? Within Him is the Holy Spirit; whatever you say, He is still one with God in heaven, for He is the incarnation of the Spirit of God. This idea of the Son simply is untrue. It is one Spirit who carries out all of the work; only God Himself, that is, the Spirit of God carries out His work. Who is the Spirit of God? Is it not the Holy Spirit? Is it not the Holy Spirit who works in Jesus? If the work had not been carried out by the Holy Spirit (that is, the Spirit of God), then could His work represent God Himself? When Jesus called God in heaven by the name of Father as He prayed, this was done only from the perspective of a created man, only because the Spirit of God had clothed Himself with an ordinary and normal man and had the exterior cover of a created being. Even if within Him was the Spirit of God, His exterior appearance was still that of an ordinary man; in other words, He had become the ‘Son of man’ of which all men, including Jesus Himself, spoke.” After reading these words, he fellowshipped about many truths with us, which made me truly realize that if God hadn’t been incarnated and opened the little scroll, he wouldn’t have known so many truths. So we twelve brothers and sisters all accepted Almighty God’s work of the last days. After I returned home, I began to read the book of God’s word given by the brother. After I finished reading it, I was more clear and certain about the work of Almighty God. At last I came to believe in the true God.

    On the seventh day after I accepted the true way, my leader in the Hua Xuehe sect came to “reckon with” me. He said, “I told you not to hear their message. Why did you hear? Why didn’t you ask my permission?” I responded by asking, “Can you find me a verse in the Bible which tells us not to receive strangers? It is clearly written: ‘Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.’ You nearly caused me to miss the great thing. If I had obeyed you, I would have led the brothers and sisters into hell. I have been upset these days, because I was no better than my dog. My dog didn’t even bark at the gospel preachers, but I slapped them. Your slanders against them were simply fabricated out of thin air. They are all tricks that you have used to bind others. You are the real liar! Those brothers and sisters bound by you will settle accounts with you in the future.” At my words, he found nothing to answer. Seeing this, I believed more firmly that Almighty God is the only true God.

    After my acceptance of the true way, I was more and more aware that only Almighty God can hold sovereign over all things and give me the real human life. God has revealed His will and His six-thousand-year management plan to man in order to deliver man from the bitter sea and allow man to live a good life. He has told man clearly His substance and the nature of man, and explained what is the true Christ and what are false Christs, what is God’s work and what is man’s practice…. Almighty God has made clear to man all the truths that man didn’t understand. But it is up to you to follow Him or not. And it is not, as the rumor says, that you won’t be able to get away once you contact the “Eastern Lightning” followers, and if you want to leave, they will gouge out your eyes, cut off your nose, and break your legs. Since I accepted the work of Almighty God, no matter how God works on me, judging or refining, I have never thought of leaving Him, because Almighty God is the only true God, and everything He does is for purifying man. Where else can I go? There is no salvation apart from Almighty God.

    A month later after I accepted Almighty God, I attended a meeting, where I met the brother who had been slapped by me when visiting my house to preach the gospel. At the sight of him, I felt very ashamed, but the brother came to me and quipped, “Brother, as long as you can accept the true way, it would be worthwhile even having my other cheek slapped by you.” “Please don’t say that, brother. I was inhuman. I was so blind and ignorant as to resist God. Brother, please slap me. Let me also have a taste of that.” He said, “The whole of mankind resists God, because God’s work is always new and never old, while all men are conservative. So it is quite difficult for God to carry out any stage of His work. However, because of the breadth, length, height, and depth of God’s love, our former sins shall be wiped away clean by God as long as we can repent and turn to Him.” At his words, I felt bad. As I thought about my past, I felt so much indebted to God. The brother continued, “Christ is our exemplar. He has endured too many sufferings. In order to save us, this group of people, who have been deeply corrupted by Satan, the Most High God has humbled Himself by becoming a small person, working among us. He has endured so great humiliation. Compared with Christ’s sufferings, what we have suffered is simply nothing.” Hearing this, I couldn’t restrain my tears of indebtedness. At that moment, the brothers and sisters began to sing the hymn of God’s word No. 63: “How hard God’s work on earth is! How difficult it is to take each step of the work! For people’s weaknesses, deficiencies, immaturity, ignorance, and their all, God makes careful plans ah and considers everything thoughtfully, considers everything thoughtfully. Although His words are sincere and earnest ah, who is willing to accept them? This has broken God’s heart oh, has broken God’s heart. God labors for people day and night, worries about their life, and sympathizes with their weaknesses. In doing each step of work and speaking every word He goes through so many difficulties, goes through so many difficulties, and He is always in a dilemma, dilemma oh and considers it day and night. Who has ever known this? Who has ever known this? To whom can He tell it? Who can understand it? He always hates people’s sins and their spinelessness and worries about their frailness. He always thinks of people’s path ahead. Their words and deeds always made Him full of mercy, grieved in His heart, and full of anger, and He always feels heartache while seeing them, while seeing them. People, who are innocent, are already numb after all ah; why always make things difficult for them? People, who are frail, already have no willpower at all ah; why always have unceasing anger toward them oh, have unceasing anger toward them? People, who are weak and feeble, are already utterly lifeless; why always criticize them for their disobedience? God has no choice but to bury all His anger in the bottom of His heart and let people gradually examine themselves. However, mankind in deep misery ah does not at all apprehend God’s intention. They are trampled by ‘the king of devils’ but are totally ignorant of that ah and are always hostile to God. God has spoken so many words, oh but who has ever taken them seriously? Who has ever taken them seriously?” My heart was touched by God’s words, and I couldn’t help but pray to Him, “O God! Hearing Your heartfelt words, I feel ashamed. I’m unworthy to live in Your presence. Thank You for the grace of salvation You gave me. Your love for me is tremendous. I can do nothing but exert what little strength I have to compensate for my past indebtedness to You. No matter how great the hindrance, I am willing to offer up my whole being to cooperate with Your work, to preach Your salvation of the last days to the brothers and sisters who are sincerely longing for the return of the Lord, so as to repay Your love.”

    Here, I urge every brother and sister who has not come to Almighty God: Please wake up! Don’t ignore the good intentions of Almighty God. For when God’s wrath comes upon you, it will be too late to repent. The Lord Jesus said: “Blessed are the poor in spirit…. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness…. Blessed are the pure in heart….” Brothers and sisters, please open your heart to receive the salvation of Almighty God! And never repeat my past doings: Driving the brothers and sisters preaching the gospel of the last days out of the door, hitting them, and setting the dog on them, which nearly deprived me of the opportunity to be saved. God is worried sick and is waiting for every true believer in Him to repent and start anew. But the days of His tolerance are limited. Just as Almighty God says: “When you behold the spiritual body of Jesus will be when God has made anew heaven and earth.” “The work of God never waits for any that cannot keep pace with God, and the righteous disposition of God shows no mercy to any man.”

The Repentance of Nineveh’s King

    Before God I have committed monstrous sins. I resisted the Almighty God’s end-time work by every possible means all along. I even condemned and blasphemed God’s flesh, burned up the book of the Almighty God’s word, and beat, abused, and insulted the brothers and sisters many times who preached God’s new work. However, the Almighty God, who is full of mercy and love, did not put me to death but stretched out his hand of salvation and gave me the opportunity to be saved. Today, facing God’s grace of salvation, I am in floods of tears and overwhelmed with sorrow and regret….

    I am Yang Xiaohui, formerly a co-worker of the Praise Church. In 1996, when I was studying in Wen County, the leader told us, “Now false christs and deceivers run rampant. A cult called ‘the Eastern Lightning’ is preaching everywhere that God has returned in the flesh as a female. They deny the Bible and say that God has done the new work and spoken the new word, and that new word is the opened little scroll. They also say that only the little scroll can sanctify man. What they preach victimizes people deeply. Once you listen to their preaching or read their book, you will be deceived. At some place, the whole church which consists of seventy to eighty believers has been deceived into joining them. Moreover, they pay special attention to deceiving leaders. They can receive 500 yuan whenever they convert one person. If you want to back out after accepting what they preach, they will cut off your ears, gouge out your eyes, or beat you up with sticks. So, everyone must guard the gate of our church carefully. Don’t receive anyone who is not sent by our church.” At these words, I was so frightened that my hair stood on end. I felt that “the Eastern Lightning” was too terrible, and at the same time, I had resistance in my heart: “It’s nonsense that the little scroll can sanctify man. If one does not hold on to the Bible, he cannot become holy even if he eats the little scroll!” From then on, I had an irreconcilable hatred for “the Eastern Lightning” and began my evil deeds of resisting God.

    Right after I returned home from my study, I went to seal the churches everywhere. I told everyone not to receive anyone who was not sent by our churches, lest they be deceived by “the Eastern Lightning.” We also made it a rule to pray in shifts around the clock specially for cursing “the Eastern Lightning” and asking God to hinder the work of “the Lightning” and to strike down those “evildoers.” But after we prayed and cursed for a period of time, to my great surprise, “the Eastern Lightning” not only did not fail but became more prosperous. Our churches, however, gradually lost the working of the Holy Spirit. The believers in our churches had envy and strife and formed factions among themselves, and they chatted and dozed off in the meetings. The leaders intrigued against one another; some started a new group, and some even simply returned to the boundless world. Seeing such a condition of the churches, I felt bitterly disappointed. Later, I fasted and prayed with several co-workers, asking God to move us to achieve the oneness of the churches, and to restore the brothers’ and sisters’ faith. But no matter how hard we prayed and pleaded with weeping and tears, it was to no avail. Our churches became more and more chaotic and had lost the working of the Holy Spirit completely and also lost peace and joy. Once, the brothers and sisters left for home after a revival meeting. On their way it rained heavily, and some of them were washed away by the flood unexpectedly. That was really perplexing. From then on, the churches became more and more desolate. Fewer and fewer people attended meetings, while more and more people accepted the Almighty God. And my hatred toward “the Eastern Lightning” grew deeper and deeper.

     During the Spring Festival in 1998, a relative of mine came to my home. In our chat, we started to talk about the condition of the churches. Seeing me worried, she advised me, “Don’t worry or lose heart. Seek and pray in everything, and God will certainly guide you. Everything is under God’s control. If God does not work, man’s hardest efforts will be in vain.” Seeing me silent, she continued, “I hear that now God has done a new work and no longer performs signs and wonders. In the Old Testament Age of the Law, God issued the laws so that people became conscious of sin. In the New Testament Age of the Grace, Jesus did the redemptive work and asked people to repent and confess their sins so that they could be justified through faith. ‘The dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them’ prophesied in Revelation refers to the Age of the Kingdom. It is the work of breaking the seven seals and opening the scroll and is also what the Holy Spirit says to the churches. In the end time, God, through his word, does the work of conquering and perfecting people, that is, the work of removing the root of sin. Now is the time to reap the harvest, so God does the third stage of the work. …” The more I listened, the more I felt there was something wrong. My intuition told me that this was “the Eastern Lightning.” I immediately questioned her: “What you believe in is ‘the Eastern Lightning,’ isn’t it? That is a deceitful heresy, a cult. I will never believe in it. If you believe in a cult and also want to deceive me, I tell you, it’s no go! You’d better give up this intent. Otherwise, get out of my house right now!”

The Pharisees

     “Don’t condemn it blindly. It won’t be too late to draw a conclusion after you listen!” she said composedly.

     “You are simply a fool. The Bible never mentions the three-stage work. As long as we believe in Jesus, confess and repent of our sins, we will be saved. When Jesus comes again, he will transform our fleshly bodies into spiritual bodies in the twinkling of an eye. We will be caught up in the air to meet the Lord and will enter into the glory together with the Lord. Is there any need for the third stage of the work? That’s simple nonsense!” I shouted at her angrily.

    “Your thought is too supernatural and wonderful. Can man go to heaven without becoming truly holy?” she said slowly after a deep sigh.

    As she spoke those words, my leader’s “advice” suddenly occurred to me: “Do not receive the people of ‘the Eastern Lightning’ or listen to their preaching.” Then I did not want to talk about anything more with her. Fearing that she would continue bothering me, I stood up and said, “If you come to preach ‘the Lightning,’ go away right now. We are not on the same path now. You believe in your three-stage work, and I still believe in my Lord Jesus.”

   “You don’t understand, so don’t rush to condemn it. Please have a listen and see whether it is the truth and whether it is God’s work. If you don’t believe after listening, I won’t force you,” she said more genially, seeming not to mind my attitude.

     “Ah! You still ask me to listen?” I shouted at her angrily as if I had eaten gunpowder. “How can you be so brazen-faced? I have said that I don’t believe, and I mean it! I will never be deceived by you or go to hell with you. In no way will I be fooled by you. Don’t think that you can preach this deceitful way to me and then get money. Stop your beautiful dream of making money! In my place, humph! You are not allowed to preach to anyone in my church. If you do, I won’t be so easy on you!” So saying, I drove her out of the door by pushing and pulling. A load was eventually taken off my mind. I thought to myself, “From now on, I have to strictly guard the churches, lest the brothers and sisters be ‘deceived.’”

     After a few days, she came again with her face radiating happiness. And she smiled at me, gentle and kind. As soon as I saw her, I flew into a rage and started shouting abuse: “How come you devil come again? Is it because your ‘prince of the devils’ is unhappy with you or because you haven’t got money? I tell you seriously, in the future, the Christ I believe in will judge the ‘false christ’ you believe in, as well as you small satan. When it’s time, Jesus will surely cast you down to deepest hell and throw you into the lake of fire and brimstone where you will have a great ‘enjoyment’! At that time, nothing can be changed even if your eyes are blinded by tears and your bowels broken by regret! That’s just your outcome, because Jesus is righteous. And we will feast our eyes on it in heaven!”

    “Ay, your today is my yesterday. Because men have all been corrupted by satan too deeply, everyone will act like this before knowing the facts. Will you please listen to the testimony? You haven’t seen the truth that God has expressed at present, so you don’t know the direction of the Holy Spirit’s working, what God wants to do in the end time, and what kind of people can enter into the kingdom. If you don’t know these but only wait to go to heaven, you will regret one day.” She said with sadness instead of being offended by my words.

     “I am a co-worker, and I preach everywhere. How can you say that I don’t know how the Holy Spirit works and what kind of people can go to heaven? That’s simply ridiculous! A person like you? Humph! You’re illiterate and look so silly. Can you know the working of the Holy Spirit? You really don’t know how high the sky is and how thick the earth is!” As I thought of this, I said fiercely, “It is you who should regret, not me. And it is you who should be punished by Jesus. You yourself have been deceived and you even try to deceive others. The Lord will not let you off easily. If you continue running around like this, what awaits you is the eternal punishment, and the lake of fire is your destination!”

     “It’s not man who can condemn, but God.” With that, she changed the subject and said, “Can you tell me what the fruit of the Holy Spirit is?”

   “Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control,” I said angrily.

    “Well recited. But hatred, anger, envy, and strife are all from the desires of the flesh. The believers in Jesus should not have these, right? In James, it says: ‘faith without deeds is dead,’” she said immediately, with a smile.

    Unwilling to be outdone, I said in a shameful rage, “You even rebuke me. I won’t fall for your trick. Don’t waste your breath or your efforts! From now on, you are not my relative, and you are not allowed to come to my home again. If you come, I will break your legs and report you to the police!” As I said that, I pushed her outward. While pushing, I shouted, “Come and look, everyone! This deceiver is really shameless. She has believed in a cult and also wants to deceive me!” My shout drew several onlookers. Hearing it, a person said, “How can you do so? Since she doesn’t believe, let her be! Why pester her? You really make a fool of yourself. If you don’t leave, we will call the police to arrest you!” Yet another said, “Well, don’t do that. Let her go. You are both believers in God. Is it necessary? She does so maybe because she thinks hers is right.” At that moment, I laughed to myself: “Now, you find yourself on the spot. I’ll see what you will say.” However, she said as if nothing had happened, “Nothing, nothing. I just passed by and had a casual chat with her. I’m not a deceiver at all.” So saying, she left.

    Looking at her receding figure, I thought proudly, “Well, today I put you on the spot and humiliate you in the street. I’ll see how you can have the face to come in the future.” I gloated somewhat, feeling that I had “gotten rid of the evildoer” this time.

    I never expected that two days later she came again as if nothing had happened. On that day, it happened that I was alone at home with the door bolted. Hearing someone knocking at the door, I looked through the crack of the door. “Oh, her again? How can there be so shameless a person in the world?” As if I had got an electric shock, I turned around and entered the room without looking back. I thought to myself, “If you don’t leave, you can stay outside guarding the door! I’ll see how long you can stay.” Two hours passed, and I could no longer stay in the room. So I went out to see whether she had left. This time she did leave, but a parcel was left at my door. I opened it and saw a letter and a book called The Truth That Must Be Equipped. “Perhaps this is the ‘little scroll’ they preach about. I absolutely can’t read it lest I be deceived.” As I thought of this, I said to myself, “May the disaster go with the person who brought this book! The One I believe in is the Lord who bestows blessings and is not….” As I said that, I lighted the book and was delighted to myself: “Curses will come upon the person who brought the book.”

    Surprisingly, early next morning, she braved the cold and came again, travel-stained. At that time, I was sweeping the floor. When I looked up and saw it was her again, I became so furious that I almost blacked out. I shouted abuse at her: “You are simply shameless!” Then, I put the broom up and wanted to beat her, but she stood still and said smilingly, “Go ahead! As long as you believe in the Almighty God, it is worth it even if I am beaten to death. As long as Jesus allows you to beat me, just go ahead!” I was dumbfounded and put down the broom in spite of myself. She took the chance to say, “Have you read the letter and the book I gave you? Actually, there is no harm in taking a look. If you feel that one ten thousandth of the words in the book is God’s work after you read it, please continue to seek. God will inspire and guide you. If you don’t think it is God’s word or God’s work, just return it to me. I won’t force…”

    Before she finished her words, I said angrily, “The book has been burned by me. You can’t get it back. I burned it lest you take it to deceive others!” Disappointment showed in her sincere eyes, and she said sorrowfully, “You really shouldn’t do that! May God have mercy on you!” After saying that, she left sadly with her head hanging down.

The Church of Almighty God

    From then on, booklets and letters were continually brought to my home, and I burned them all without mercy. Also I kept praying to Jesus to curse the people of “the Eastern Lightning” and to stop their footsteps. However, many humiliations, many curses and abuses, and many destructions did not hinder their firm steps. In the dewy mornings, they had ever come; at the pitch-dark nights, they had ever come; at the scorching noons, they had ever come; in the cold winters, they had ever come; in the hot summers, they had ever come…. They tried all means to persuade me and waited silently, yet my heart was still as hard as before, never moved by them. Not only so, but I studied the Bible harder, dreaming of fighting against “the Eastern Lightning” to the end. I spent two years in the war without the smoke of gunpowder, during which I always considered myself to be guarding the house for the Lord and performing my duty faithfully. But somehow the Lord did not bestow peace and joy upon me according to my “faithfulness”; on the contrary, I felt darker and darker in spirit. Even worse, at night I was often woken up by nightmares and always heard a voice saying: “You fool, wake up!” I thought that it was probably because I was not “faithful” enough to the Lord, so I studied the Bible even harder, trying to find from it something that could wake me up. One day, I read Matthew 7:18-20: “A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.” After I read these words, her image flashed into my mind. I thought to myself, “Judging from her speech and behavior…. Could it be that what she preaches is the true way? Why is the fruit she bears that of the Holy Spirit? She has gentleness, humility, and patience, and she has lived up to ‘forgiving others seventy times seven.’ I, however, have expressed anger, self-rightness, self-conceit, and jealousy. Aren’t all these from the desires of the flesh?” At that moment, I felt surprised, bewildered, and upset. Then I turned to 1 Corinthians 6:1-8: “If any of you has a dispute with another, dare he take it before the ungodly for judgment…. But instead, one brother goes to law against another—and this in front of unbelievers! The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. … Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers.” Having read this, I could not help examining myself: Compared with theirs, my words and actions are really contrary to the Lord’s teachings. The Lord asks us to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us. How about me? I insult, abuse, and even beat them. Could this be what the Lord teaches me to do? I blindly condemn what they preach without reading, listening, or seeking. How could this be what a believer in God should do? It is simply satan’s expression. I felt unpeaceful. “What should I do? Should I believe in what they preach? No! If I am really deceived, I will be finished. And I have publicly said in the churches that no one is allowed to receive them or listen to their preaching.” I found myself in a dilemma. Having no choice, I told this thought to one of my co-workers. She advised me, “Haven’t you said that ‘the Eastern Lightning’ is deceitful and cannot be accepted? Don’t let your mind wander. Pray to the Lord earnestly and ask him to help you get rid of this thought.” I tried praying as she told me for several days, but this thought could not be wiped from my mind and it kept troubling me. I tried hard to figure out why but in vain, so I came before God again and prayed, “O Lord, please help me and lead me in the way I should go. Please give me the gift of distinguishing between spirits and give me intelligence and wisdom as well.” To my surprise, I felt extremely assured after I had such a prayer. I then made a decision: I will personally go into the “tiger’s den” to bring the whole thing to light and see whether ‘the Eastern Lightning’ is the true way and whether it is God’s work.

   Before long, I pretended to accept what they preached, and joined “the Eastern Lightning.” When I attended a meeting in their church, I was shocked at what I saw. It was completely different from what I had imagined that they were “promiscuous” and “filthy and dirty,” as different as heaven from earth. I saw that they behaved properly. They read God’s words and spoke out freely their knowledge of them based on their states. Furthermore, they focused on knowing their own corruptions and deficiencies and fellowshipped with one another about God’s intention and love for man. They sang and danced to praise God, each released and free. Seeing all these, I was delighted in my heart. “Is this their meeting? Isn’t this the scene we have desired and thirsted for a long time?” I could hardly believe my eyes. As I had more contact with them, my misunderstandings about and resistance against “the Eastern Lightning” gradually faded away. In order to preach God’s end-time work to the brothers and sisters, they braved hardships or tiredness and endured the rejections, slanders, and even beatings from the people of various sects and denominations. Sometimes, after they came back, they also felt passive and sad because of the weakness of their flesh, but because of God’s love and God’s anxious heart, they became strong again, neither discouraged nor disappointed. And they encouraged one another and fellowshipped about their mistakes and deficiencies with one another. Besides, they often came before God and prayed with weeping and tears for those who refused to accept the Almighty God, asking God to inspire them and not to punish them. They did so time and time again until they brought them before God. Actually, all the sufferings and humiliations they endured were to satisfy God and to carry out the will of God. I was moved somewhat by that, yet my craftiness made me still unable to believe them easily. I thought, “Who knows how they will treat a person who withdraws midway? Maybe they won’t be so ‘kind’!” So I carried out my second plan—withdrawing midway and finding out the truth of the matter.

    The fact was utterly contrary to my expectation. As soon as I stopped attending their meeting, they came to my home one after another and asked me with deep concern, “Is it because you have a prejudice against someone? Or because what we fellowshipped about is too high for you to accept or understand? Or because there is any difficulty in your family? If you are not clear about the vision—the three-stage work, we can fellowship with you again. …” Their caring words made me not know what to do, but I was adamant. Again and again, they continued to visit me, fellowship with me patiently, read God’s word to me, and sincerely pray before God for me. They even took the trouble to fellowship about God’s work with me from first to last. … All of these were striking my numb spirit and softening my hardened heart. Finally, my last “line of defense” collapsed! I shed remorseful tears for their love without complaint or regret, for God’s kind intention in saving me, and for my extreme unworthiness. With my eyes bedimmed with tears, I felt that God was leading me and waiting for me. I could no longer control myself but fell face down to the ground and wept bitterly. I hated myself for being blind and foolish. I hated myself for being arrogant and disobedient. I hated myself for what I had said and done to resist and abuse God haughtily. I hated myself even more for my heartless evil deeds of frenziedly sealing the churches. “O God! How can I redeem the monstrous sins that I have committed? …”

    Only then did I know that I was absolutely an embodiment of satan and the foremost of sinners who resisted God’s work. The one who should be cursed and put into deepest hell was not others but me. The lake of fire and brimstone should be my destination. As one who believed in God yet frenziedly resisted God, what virtue did I have that I received such an uplifting from God? God not only did not remember my transgressions or punish me, but gave me the opportunity to be saved. I deeply felt that I was extremely unworthy. The tolerance of the Almighty God was as boundless as the sea and sky. It was the Almighty God’s limitless and measureless love that had come upon me. For that, I would do my utmost to repay God’s love and let all the brothers and sisters who were living under satan’s authority and who were deceived and used by it, know the truth of the matter and know how great the salvation of the Almighty God was.

    When I, full of enthusiasm and confidence, came to the homes of the brothers and sisters who had been very close to me and who had shared hardships with me, what I saw made me disgraced and grieved. On hearing that I came to preach the Almighty God, they shouted loudly, “You apostate! How can you have the face to come to preach? It’s you who told us not to listen at that time, but now you ask us to listen. Probably you are bribed to deceive us.” Then they pushed me out of the door without giving me a chance to explain. From then on, they even did not let me in.

    From them, I see the me of yesterday, and I am extremely ashamed. Faced with their attitude, I do not complain because I deserve it; I do not feel discouraged because God’s love is encouraging me; I do not feel disappointed because I have seen God’s grace of salvation on me. I only sincerely call on those so-called “faithful” “servants” of Jesus and brothers and sisters to wake up quickly! Don’t accumulate the evidence of your sins for God’s judgment anymore. Don’t accumulate God’s wrath for your tomorrow anymore. This is because when that day comes, the great and awesome Almighty God will judge all nations and all peoples. No one can hinder it and no one can do it in his stead! At that time, nothing can be changed even if you are heartbroken with regret. Believe! Repent! Open the door!

8. How a Son of Disobedience Was Conquered by the Almighty God

    I am Sun Yongping, formerly a co-worker of a house church. Because I was single, without family burdens, and was willing to pursue to make progress, the church paid special attention to training me. So I often had chances to work and study in other places. In recent years, every time I went to work out of town, I came back loaded with rumors about “the Eastern Lightning.” Unconsciously, I was deeply poisoned. Especially after I read a book called Refute the Cult the Eastern Lightning, I was more encouraged to resist the Almighty God. Without verification or investigation, I had a strong aversion and hostility to this “way” that I knew nothing about. So, I joined others in rebuking and refuting “the Eastern Lightning,” and even mobilized all the brothers and sisters to curse “the Eastern Lightning” in their daily prayers. Meanwhile, I also heard the rumors say, “The means of ‘the Eastern Lightning’ is extremely cruel. If you do not accept what they preach, they will use violence on you, such as gouging out your eyes, cutting off your nose, or cutting off your ears. Besides, they will seduce you with beauty or buy you off with money. And as long as you accept their ‘way,’ they will give you whatever you lack. …” Soon those rumors were spread everywhere. The entire religious world accepted them to be true. And I felt more hatred, hostility, and fear toward this “way.” All day long I lived in dread, fearing that I might “lose my footing” and fall into the “trap” of “the Eastern Lightning.”

    In the summer of 1999, a sister who believed in the Almighty God, introduced by someone else, came to my home to fellowship with me with the purpose of preaching the way of truth to me. However, I drove her out of my house and warned her, “Don’t come to me anymore from now on. I won’t accept that stuff you preach!”

    At another time, a brother told me, “A female colleague of mine also believes in Jesus. She often comes to my home and talks about something concerning belief in God with me. Could she be of ‘the Eastern Lightning’?” I asked him what she talked about. He said, “She fellowshipped with me from Genesis about how God created man and woman, and went all the way to…” Before the brother finished his words, I stopped him by saying, “That’s enough. Ten to one she is a heretic, because I have known some contents of their doctrine and some of the ways in which they preach it. Her fellowship quite fits.” Then and there I devised a plan and said, “Let’s do it this way. When she comes again, you and she can fix a time when she can give you a good fellowship. Then I will bring some people to catch her on the spot.” Thus, we acted according to our plan but did not succeed in the end.

    One morning in the autumn of 2001, while I was saying a morning prayer at home, I vaguely heard someone speaking to my mother outside, “Aunty…” At this, I thought there might be strangers who wanted to enter our house. So I immediately stopped praying and walked out. Sure enough, there were two strangers. Seeing me come up, they nodded to me and greeted me kindly. Without saying a word, I pushed them outward and said, “Go, go, go!” They said in surprise and bewilderment, “Brother, how can you do this? …” I pushed them all the way out of the yard and shut the gate behind me. Later, I learned that the two sisters specially came from another place to preach God’s end-time gospel to me. However, I drove them away mercilessly.

    In retrospect, I had done too many evil things. And there was one worse thing, which happened in the summer of 2002. One day at noon, I received a call from a sister, who said, “A woman who preaches heresy has come to the home of a co-worker. What should we do? We can’t handle it.” “You stall her first. We’ll be there in a minute!” After I hang up the phone, we immediately took a taxi there. That sister had already come out of the co-worker’s home and was standing outside talking about something with the several sisters of our church. I said, “Catch her!” Then, six people forcibly took her upstairs to that co-worker’s home. As soon as we got in the door, we began to search her and took her bag. I even pointed at her and said fiercely, “I tell you, I won’t let you go easily if you don’t lay it on the line! Having fallen into my hands, you’d better admit defeat!” However, these words did not make her frightened; instead, she became calmer and more collected, sitting there without saying a word. Seeing this, I became furious and gave her a heavy slap on the face. Instinctively, she covered her face with her hands, and blood immediately flowed out through her fingers. The several sisters beside me were so scared that they were all in a fluster. For fear of getting into trouble, they helped her wipe the face with tissues. At that time, I became so devoid of humanity that I even said such words: “Don’t help her. Let her wipe by herself. Don’t have pity on such a person.” After the blood was wiped away, I continued questioning her but she still remained silent. At this time, the tall brother who came with me rushed at her fiercely, kicked her and the chair to the floor, and then gave her several more kicks. Afterward, I walked forward, dragged her up from the floor by her hair, and shouted, “Stop pretending! Today if you don’t make a full confession, the good part is yet to come! …” Thus, under our beating, that sister had no strength to resist. By two and more in the afternoon, I still did not give her anything to eat or drink. And even when she asked me for the medicine in her bag, I did not give it to her. In the end, seeing that we would not release her, she asked me, “Are you believers in Jesus or not? How come you don’t have any love or mercy as a believer in Jesus?” I said, “What makes you say that I don’t have love or mercy?” She said, “Will anyone who has mercy stand by and watch someone suffering from illness? Will anyone who has love beat a weak woman?” I walked up to her and retorted upon her, saying, “How can I treat you people with love? I will beat you as many times as you come, until you dare not come again. …” After a while, that tall brother called me out and said, “Leave here now. I have reported her to the police.” So we left in a hurry. Later, I heard that that sister was taken to the police station. Just like that, I gave the sister who preached the gospel a good beating and handed her over to the “authority of Herod.” Now, as I think of this matter, I extremely hate myself, and I also realize that I am too bad in humanity and really deserve to be cursed.

    Later, I found that a large number of brothers and sisters of various churches turned to the Almighty God, and the trend was irresistible. But this did not arouse my desire to seek, nor did I see God’s hand from it, much less see that it was the working of the Holy Spirit and God Godself wanted to call back his sheep. When I heard that the leaders and workers who were admired by many people had also accepted the Almighty God’s end-time work, I still did not wake up. On the contrary, I said to the brothers and sisters when preaching, “None of those who have accepted ‘ the Lightning’ is a good person! You think they are good; that’s because they were hypocritical at ordinary times. Now the Lord has exposed them, so they have naturally shown their true colors. Though they were eloquent and seemed to be spiritual at ordinary times, haven’t they fallen in the end?”

    Brothers and sisters, the account of each event I gave above is true, and there is not any exaggeration in it. After reading about my acts of resisting God, you may feel very angry. Yes! I also bitterly hate myself and also feel that I deserve to be cursed and destroyed. However, God’s great love, tolerance, and mercy are beyond measure. Even though I had resisted and slandered the Almighty God so terribly, God’s end-time salvation was still not withheld from me.

    One day in 2003, thanks to God’s wonderful arrangement, I was fortunate to hear the testimony about God’s end-time work. But during the fellowship, I could in no way accept the “name” and “gender” of Christ. Then I said to the brother who gave the testimony, “Hebrews 13:8 says: ‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.’ So why do you preach another Christ today? And you even say Christ is a female. Can it be right?” He replied gently, “Brother, don’t be angry. Calm down. Let’s read several passages of God’s word, and you will understand.” God says: “When Jesus began to perform his ministry, the Holy Spirit began to testify to the name of Jesus, and the name of Jehovah was no longer mentioned…. When the Old Testament Age of the Law ended, it meant that the work God did mainly with the name Jehovah ended. From then on, God’s name was no longer Jehovah but Jesus. Thereafter, the Holy Spirit began to do the work mainly with the name Jesus. So if now you still eat and drink Jehovah’s word and judge the work according to the work of the Age of the Law, aren’t you judging it according to regulations? Aren’t you holding on to old things? Now you know that the end time has come, so could Jesus still be called Jesus when he comes? … Could God only be called Jesus? Couldn’t he be called by a new name in the new age? Could one image of a ‘man’ and one particular name be God’s everything? God does a new work and takes a new name in each age. How could he do the same work in different ages? How could he hold on to old things? The name ‘Jesus’ was taken for the sake of the redemptive work. Could Jesus still be called by this name when he comes again in the end time? Could he still do the redemptive work? Jehovah and Jesus were one, but why were they called by different names in different ages? Isn’t it because the ages of their works were different? Could one name represent God’s everything? So, God has to take a different name in a different age, changing the age with his name and representing the age with his name, because no name can fully represent God Godself but one name can only represent God’s nature typical of one age and God takes a name as long as it can represent the work. So, God can choose any name that matches his nature to represent a whole age. Whether it was the age of Jehovah or the age of Jesus, God used his name to represent the age. … He was called Jesus when he came before; could he still be called Jesus when he comes this time? He was a male when he came before; could he still be a male when he comes this time? … Some people say that God is unchanging. That is also right, but it means that God’s nature and God’s substance are unchanging. When his name and work change, it does not prove that his substance changes. In other words, God is forever God, and this is unchanging. If you say that God’s work is unchanging, could God’s six-thousand-year management plan come to an end? You only know that God is unchanging, but do you know that God is also ever new? If his work were unchanging, could he have led mankind until today? If he were unchanging, why would he have done the works of two ages? … God is not as simple as man imagines. His work cannot stop in one age, just as the name Jehovah cannot replace God’s name forever and God can also work with the name Jesus. This is a mark that God’s work continuously progresses forward.” After reading this passage, the brother continued to read: “If God were only a male when he was incarnated, people would consider that God is a male and a God of men and would never think that he is a God of women. Then, men would think that God and men are of the same gender. So God would be men’s head. What about women then? That would be unfair. Wouldn’t that be showing favoritism? In that case, God only saved men who are the same as him, so no woman would be saved. When God created mankind, he created Adam and Eve. He did not only create Adam but created man and woman in his image. God is not only the God of men, but also the God of women.” “Every stage of work done by God has practical significance. At that time when Jesus came, he was a male. This time when God comes, he is a female. From this you can see that God’s creating both man and woman can be for his work and with God there is no gender. When his Spirit comes, he can put on any flesh as he wants, and this flesh can represent him. Whether this flesh is a male or a female, he can represent God as long as he is God’s incarnated flesh.” After listening to these two passages, I woke up all at once. “Actually, that God never changes means his substance never changes, but God’s work continuously progresses forward. Otherwise, how could mankind have developed till today? Today when God comes to earth through being incarnated, he takes the outer shell of a female; this even more shows God’s wisdom. Otherwise, wouldn’t man circumscribe God?” Before God’s words, I was really quite convinced, and I also became much calmer.

    Then, I asked the brother another question: “You say that God comes the second time through being incarnated. But I have never read such words in the Bible as ‘God will come through being incarnated.’ I only read in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 that there will be three kinds of voices when God comes. And the Bible also says that he will come on the white clouds with thousands upon thousands of his angels. But how come the Lord does not come today as the Bible says?” The brother answered, “Luke 17:24-25 says: ‘For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.’ When the ‘Son of Man’ is mentioned, he has to be a person born in a normal family, and when the ‘Son of Man’ is mentioned, he has to have the likeness of a man. If God comes as a spiritual body, he cannot be called the ‘Son of Man.’ Take Jehovah and Jesus as an example. They were both God, but only Jesus could be called the ‘Son of Man’ whereas Jehovah could not be called the ‘Son of Man.’ This is because Jesus was the flesh in which God’s Spirit was clothed, and he had normal humanity and full divinity. Jehovah, however, only had full divinity, and he worked in Israel in the way of the Spirit and appeared to men in the way of the Spirit, so he could not be called the ‘Son of Man.’ Besides, only when God comes to earth through being incarnated can he be said to suffer things and be rejected by this generation. If he came as a spiritual body, those things would be out of the question. Since the Spirit is formless and imageless, intangible and invisible, and not limited by any person, matter, or thing, or by any space or place, how could he be said to suffer things? So, from these verses we can see that the Lord will come the second time through being incarnated instead of appearing to men as a spiritual body.” Checking this against the facts, I found it was truly so. “The religious world says that ‘the Eastern Lightning’ is a heresy, and the government condemns it as a ‘cult.’ Isn’t this the rejection by this generation?”

    Having understood that the Lord came the second time still through being incarnated, I was more anxious to know how exactly the Lord came. I thought to myself, “Isn’t it as 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 says?” With regard to this point, the brother fellowshipped, “As to how the Lord comes, we cannot just pay attention to 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 but ignore other verses, such as Revelation 3:3: ‘But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief,’ and Matthew 24:44, 50: ‘because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.’ These verses all prophesied the Lord’s second coming. Also, Acts 1:9-11 says that as the Lord went, so will he come. Which verse is accurate, then? Which verse will be fulfilled when the Lord comes? In fact, all will be fulfilled, and none will fail. Then, how to solve the contradiction between them? As long as we look at them according to the sequence of the events, the problem will be easily solved. The angel said that as the Lord went, so would he come. Then what do you think the angel meant by saying those words? Do you really dare to say that coming on the clouds is the only way for the Lord to come?” “I dare to say so!” I said firmly. “Turn to John 20:16-17 and see why the Lord Jesus didn’t allow Mary to touch him at that time.” I answered, “That’s because Mary is unholy.” He said, “No. Just look for the answer in these verses.” I read them carefully. Indeed, I found that the answer was given plainly in verse 17: “Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father….” Then, the brother asked me to read John 20:24-29. After I finished reading, he asked, “Why did Jesus allow Thomas to touch him at this time? What does it indicate? If Jesus had not ascended to the Father, how could he have allowed Thomas to touch him? From these two passages, we can see that the Lord Jesus had ascended to heaven secretly once before he ascended to heaven in public. Now, have you understood what the angel meant by saying that as Jesus went, so would he come? Jesus went secretly, so he would come secretly. This has exactly fulfilled the prophecies in Matthew 24:44, 50 and Revelation 3:3. Thus it can be seen that Jesus will come twice as he went twice. Now he has come secretly, and shortly he will come publicly. None of the verses will fail, and all will be fulfilled.” After hearing the brother’s fellowship, I was filled with shocked wonder and felt terribly ashamed. Before the truth and under the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit, my notions had been overturned one by one. At that moment, I said to the brother excitedly, “Now I know what you have preached is correct and is the true way. I have misunderstood you!”

    Only after following the Almighty God have I truly realized that all I heard in the religious world in the past are rumors and slanders against the true way. This is because I have personally experienced that God conquered me with many truths. It was not by means of “seducing with beauty, buying off with money, or threatening with violence,” as the rumors say, that I was made to turn to the Almighty God. Of course, those who do not know about my story may think that I was seduced by women of “the Eastern Lightning” into joining it, or that I was swayed by a lot of money they gave me, or that because they are an underworld gang, I had to accept for fear of their using violence on me. Brothers and sisters, now I tell you this seriously: All these thoughts of yours are not facts but misunderstandings about and slanders against the Almighty God! If you still don’t believe after reading my testimony, you may as well come to my home personally to make an investigation and see whether I have become very rich or whether I have ladies accompanying me. Besides, if they were really an underworld gang, how could they have allowed me to frenziedly resist and even beat and abuse them? Then, could I live safely to this day? Could my home and family remain sound? Didn’t they know to revenge?

    Dear brothers and sisters, I am a person who loves vainglory, and I really did not have the courage to make public the facts about how I resisted God and how I was conquered by God. But because God’s word kept moving me inside, I could not resist anymore. God says: “Have you ever thought how grieved and worried God’s heart is? How could he bear to see the innocent mankind he created with his own hands suffering such torment? After all, mankind are the unfortunate who have been poisoned. Although they have survived today, who knows that they have long been poisoned by the evil one? Have you forgotten that you were one of the victims? Are you not willing to try hard to save all these survivors because of loving God? Are you not willing to exert all your strength to repay the God who loves man as his own flesh and blood?” It is God’s word that has moved my heart, and it is God’s love that has encouraged me, so that I have broken away from the power of darkness and stood up to bear this testimony for God and for the true way. Thank God for giving me this chance to atone for my sins. I am willing to dedicate all my strength for God’s gospel work at this final time. No matter how great suffering and hindrance there will be, I am willing to make public the facts about my disobedience so that more people who are deceived by rumors can see through satan’s schemes and receive God’s end-time salvation soon.

    Wake up! Dear brothers and sisters! God is expecting you, expecting you to turn back now. Throw yourself into his arms quickly, because time is too short, too short! Brothers and sisters, don’t refuse God’s arrival again. Don’t shut the door on the true God who has long since come because there will be false christs appearing in the last days. As God’s word says: “You should not blindly condemn the words expressed by God because there will be false christs appearing in the end time, and should not be ones who blaspheme the Holy Spirit for fear of being deceived. Won’t that be too regrettable?” “I have spoken to you all that I ought to. What path you should choose will be totally decided by your own choice.You should understand such a word: God’s work never waits for anyone who cannot keep up with his pace, and God’s righteous nature is merciless toward anyone.”
